In May 2008, under the supervision of Recording Arts Professor Jay Henry, construction of a $5.5-million, state-of-the-art Center for Recording Arts & Technology was completed on the campus of Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California.

Under the auspices of the School of Arts and Communication, Recording Arts & Technology and Commercial Music, the new recording studio facility is making  available a level of audio technology education unprecedented within the California educational system.

The facility includes 2 fully functional hybrid commercial recording studios and 2 Pro Tools post-production editing suites, providing students with a "real world" work environment and the opportunity to work with music and entertainment professionals using the recording facilities.

The main control room is equipment with a SSL Duality 48 Channel  console, a 48 track Pro Tools HD system, a 48 channel Tascam DA 78 system, a full complement of analog processing equipment from ADL,  Aphex,  API, Avalon, Chandler, DBX, Empirical Labs, Eventide, GML,  Lexicon, Little Labs, Manley, Mercury, Summit, Tube Tech, UA, Yamaha,  a full range YDCG stereo monitor systems as well as a JBL LSP 4338P 5.1 surround system.

Tie lines to the two adjacent 1750 SF rehearsal halls allow for recording of up to 75 pieces.

The maple hardwood and light fabric covered 1,225 SF studio can be subdivided with sliding glass doors to create two separate isolation rooms. Judicious placement of bass traps allows the moderately live recording space to retain a high degree of definition.
