Wave:Space Completes Multifunctional Post Production Facility for Medicine Man Recording

Southern California based Acoustic Design firm also provided custom audio monitors for the Chicago studio

Foothill Ranch, CA. January 10, 1996: Wave:Space, one of the world’s leading design and engineering firms of recording, video, motion picture and broadcast facilities, directed by acclaimed acoustic designer Carl Yanchar, recently completed construction of their newest addition to Chicago’s recording facilities, Medicine Man Recording.

Built into an existing masonry shell of a law office, this 330 square foot control room / vocal booth combination is set up as a multifunctional post production, editing and music recording center. Design is beginning on converting the adjacent space, an old drugstore, into an 800 square foot recording studio.

A first in Chicago, Medicine Man Recording is also the first commercial facility in the city equipped with Wave:Space’s own WS152B audio monitors featuring a direct drive ribbon which replaces the horn/compression driver combination. The new driver features a lightweight diaphragm and neodymium magnet, capable of 137.5 dB peak, 125.5 dB continuous at 1 m with response from 1kHz to 30kHz. The impulse response and group delay are significantly improved over even the finest compression driver/horn combinations. Dispersion is 110 x 40 degrees.
